  • What is HIV and Hep C Coinfection?
    Coinfection means that one is infected with more than one disease at the same time. A common coinfection for those with HIV is the HIV/Hep C coinfection.

  • Causes/Transmission
    The cause and the transmission of coinfection is similar to each of these diseases individually. Please see the relevant sections here for more information.

  • Symptoms
    Coinfections can become serious more rapidly in people that are coinfected with HIV and Hep C relative to people that are not co­infected.

    Coinfection treatment is more complex as it involves treating both HIV and Hep C.
